25 as if; as it was; as it were; as it is; as though; look like

● 除了as it was和as it is外，其余四个词组均表示“好像”“似乎”，它们常可换用。as if 与as though是连词，as it were是句子，look like是动词词组。

● as if和as though是我们见得较多的词组，它们作“好像”“似乎”之意时，用法相同，可以互换。当它们引导从句时所表现的情况不是事实，而是主观想法、夸大的比喻，从句中的谓语多用虚拟语气。如：You look as if you’d seen a ghost.（你好像是见了鬼似的。）She behaves as if [though] she were a child.（她的举止像个孩子似的。）I feel as though [if] I were ten years younger.（我觉得自己好像年轻了十岁。）The lad started, as if [though] awakened from some dream.（那位少年突然惊起，好像从梦中醒来。）

● 如果从句中的情况是事实，或讲话人认为句中的情况实现的可能性较大时，也可用陈述语气，如果谓语动词是look, seem, smell, taste等时更是这样。如：It looks as if [though] it is going to rain.（天好像要下雨了。）It seems as though [if] we shall have to walk home.（看来，我们得走路回家了。）The soap tastes as though [if] it is salt.（这汤尝起来够咸的。）It seems as if you are from the south.（看来你是南方人。）

● as it was, as it is意为“事实上”，可参见as a matter of fact条，另再举几例：As it was, one of the wings, and the undercarriage and the propeller, had been smashed.（实际上，飞机的一个机翼、起落架和螺旋桨全部被撞碎了。）As it is, we can hardly get to the station by 5 o’clock.（事实上，我们五点前很难赶到车站。）Carry out the plan as it is.（按原计划执行吧。）

● as it were一般作插入语，它不受句中谓语时态的影响，as it were三个单词永无变化，位置也较灵活。如：He seemed, as it were, a man living on another world.（他好像生活在另一个星球上似的。）Though the terrible experience had happened long before, she felt, as it were, still in the nightmare.（虽然那场可怕的经历早已过去，但她好像仍在噩梦中。）He is my best friend, my second self, as it were.（他是我最好的朋友，可说是第二个我。）He is, as it were, a walking dictionary.（他可以说是部活字典。）

● look like,多指对未来要发生的事情的推测，like是介词，后接名词或ing分词，不接从句，多用一般时态。如：These houses look exactly like each other which makes the street look very dull.（这些房屋一模一样，使这条街显得十分单调乏味。）Give me twenty years and just see what the country will look like.（给我二十年，看这个国家会变成什么样子。）The place looks from afar like a traditional landscape painting.（那地方从远处看就像一幅山水画。）
