1.1 News Discourse in This Book
News generally refers to the information about newsworthy events, happenings, and issues daily reported through mass media, specifically information that is customarily featured in newspapers, radios, and TV programs. Nowadays, with the development of globalization and digital technologies, news has expanded its reach to a wide range of audiences through different channels like blogs,TikTok,and other social feeds. In this sense, news discourse refers to the discourse the audience reads, hears,or watches in newspapers, news programs, news websites,or other news feeds. The primary focus of the study in this book is the analysis of English news discourse in mainstream daily news media, specifically the examination of government-produced English news found in state-run newspapers and official websites. This selection was made for two reasons: firstly, news discourse from official outlets has a wide readership and significant impact on the public;secondly, obtaining data for analysis is more readily accessible in these sources.
