1 贝雷的新衣 Pelle’s New Suit

曾经，在瑞典的一个小村庄里生活着一个叫贝雷的小男孩儿。他有一只可爱的小羊羔，贝雷把它当作最好的朋友，并每天无微不至地照料着它。

Once upon a time, there lived a little boy named Pelle in a small village of Sweden. He had a lovely lamb, Pelle regarded it as his best friend and he took care of it every day.

日子一天天过去，贝雷和羊羔都长大了，羊羔的毛越来越长，而贝雷的衣服却越来越短。终于有一天，贝雷拿来大剪刀决定替他的羊羔修剪长毛。

As time went on, Pelle and the lamb grew up. The lamb’s hair grew longer and longer, while Pelle's suit grew shorter and shorter! Finally, Pelle brought a shear and decided to cut the long hair for his lamb.

他拿着剪下的羊毛来到外婆的住处并请求：“亲爱的外婆，能不能帮我梳理一下这些羊毛？”外婆笑着说：“当然可以，我的宝贝，不过我希望你能帮我把胡萝卜地里的杂草都拔了!”

He took the wool clippings to his maternal grandmother’s house and asked: "Dear grandma, can you help me card these wool?" Grandma answered him with smile: "Of course, my baby, but I hope you can help me pull out all the weeds in carrot field!"

于是，贝雷把羊毛交给了外婆，并帮外婆拔除了胡萝卜地里的杂草，而外婆也为贝雷梳理好了羊毛。

So, Pelle gave the wool to maternal grandma, and helped his grandma pull out the weeds in carrot field. Grandma carded the wool ready for Pelle.

贝雷又拿着梳理好的羊毛去找奶奶，请求道：“亲爱的奶奶，您能帮我把这些羊毛纺成毛线吗？”“当然，宝贝，奶奶愿意，”奶奶说道，“可是我还需要照料我的牛，如果你能替我照料牛群，我现在就可以纺线!”

Then, Pelle took the carded wool to his paternal grandmother and requested: "Dear grandma, can you help me spin these wool into woolen yarn?" "Of course, I’d like to", the grandma answered, "But I have to look after my cow, if you can help me look after the herd, I will spin right now!"

于是，贝雷替奶奶看管牛群，而毛线也在这段时间纺成了。

So, Pelle helped grandma look after the herd, and the yarn was finished during that time.

贝雷有一位做油漆工的邻居，于是贝雷来到他的身边请求他借给自己一些染料，这样就能给这些毛线染上漂亮的颜色了。

Pelle had a neighbor doing paintwork, so he came to his neighbor and asked to borrow some dyestuff to dye these woolen yarn beautiful colors.

油漆匠听了贝雷的要求，笑道：“你真是一个小傻瓜!我的染料是不能染毛线的。但要是你能帮我划船到对岸的商店里去买一瓶松脂的话，我可以让你用买松脂剩下的钱买一些染毛线的染料。”贝雷开心地答应了。

After hearing Pelle’s requirement, the painter answered with smile: "You are a little fool! My dyestuff cannot be used to dye woolen yarn. But if you can row the boat to the store on the other side and help me buy a bottle of rosin there, I will give the left money to you and then you can buy some woolen yarn dyestuff." Pelle promised him happily.

贝雷划船来到商店，买了一瓶松脂，然后又用剩下的钱买了一袋蓝色的染料。回到家后，贝雷把他的毛线染成了漂亮的蓝色。

Pelle rowed to the store, he bought a bottle of rosin and a bag of blue dyestuff with the left money. When coming back home, Pelle dyed woolen yarn beautiful blue color.

贝雷拿着毛线来找妈妈：“亲爱的妈妈，请您把这些毛线织成一块布吧，我想要一件新衣服。”妈妈温柔地说道：“我很乐意帮助你，我的宝贝，可是谁来替我照顾你的小妹妹呢？”

Pelle took the woolen yarn to his mother: "Dear Mum, please weave these woolen yarn into a piece of cloth. I want a new dress." His mother answered softly: "I’m very glad to help you, my baby, but who will help me take care of you little sister?"

于是，在妈妈编织布料的时候，贝雷负责起照顾妹妹的工作。

So, Pelle helped his mother look after his sister when his mother was weaving.

布料制成后，贝雷带着它来到一家裁缝店，并请求裁缝师傅为他做一套漂亮的新衣服。裁缝师傅答应了，但他希望贝雷也能替他干点事情，他要求贝雷帮他收集干草，并把木柴拿到他的屋里，还要喂他的猪。贝雷爽快地答应了，并做得很好。

When the cloth was finished, Pelle took it to a tailor's shop, and requested the tailor to make a beautiful new suit for him. The tailor promised, but he hoped that Pelle could help do something for him. Then he asked Pelle to collect dry grass, brought wood to his house and helped feed his pigs. Pelle promised readily and he did a very good job.

在贝雷完成所有工作的那个星期六的晚上，裁缝师傅终于把贝雷的新衣服做好了。

On the Saturday night when Pelle finished all his work, the tailor completed the new suit for Pelle.

星期日的早上，贝雷高高兴兴地穿上他的新衣服，拥抱他的羊羔儿：“谢谢你，我的小羊羔!”羊羔儿发出欢乐的“咩”“咩”声，所有的人都被这种快乐感染了，村庄里充满了愉快的笑声!

On Sunday morning, Pelle put on his new suit happily. He hugged his lamb and said:"Thank you, my little lamb!" The lamb utters joyous "baa" "baa" sounds, all people were indulged in this happiness, and the village was filled with happy laughter!
