Unit 6 Lost and Found 受理报失与失物招领

When a foreigner reports a loss, police officers usually express their sympathy first, by saying "I'm sorry to hear that" before making out a report, which includes the natural information of the person who lost things such as his or her name, nationality, passport number, address in China and phone number, time and place of the loss and detailed description of the lost items.

If a check or a credit card is lost, remind the person who lost it to notify his bank or credit card company as soon as possible.

If foreigners report the loss of their passports, police officers should give them a receipt for the report and tell them to apply for a confirmation of reporting the loss of passports in the local Exit-Entry Administration Service Center. With the confirmation, they can apply to their consulate or embassy in China for a new passport and then get the new passport visaed by the local Exit-Entry Administration Service Center.

As soon as the lost article has been recovered, police officers have to contact the person who lost it and ask him or her to claim it, and meantime make sure what has been found is just what was lost, and ask the person to sign the Statement of Loss before returning it.
