Complemented bracket expressions
A complemented bracket expression is one in which the first character after the [ must be caret, ^. This character class matches any character except those in the square brackets. For example, [^abc] will match any character but not 'a', 'b', or 'c'. Similarly, [^0-9] matches any character except a digit.
