Wi-Fi communication for edge analytics

Wireless communication is probably the most common technology used for IoT and edge analytics applications. We generally use Wi-Fi to connect our edge computer or microcontroller to a router for internet access.

Wi-Fi uses the IEEE 802.11 protocol and transmits with channels divided in the radio frequency ranges in and around 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 3.6 GHz, 4.9 GHz, 5 GHz, 5.9 GHz, and 60 GHz. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies are the most common.

To get a better understanding of what these frequencies mean, let's take a look at the radio frequency or RF spectrum.
