YIN MINGWU
YIN Mingwu, distinguished contemporary Chinese composer, Ph. D. of composition, professor in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music(SCM), doctoral advisor, Dr. Yin has been engaged in music composition and teaching and research in modern composition and orchestration technique. After graduating in 1990 with straight A’s, he was admitted to the graduate school of SCM and studied with Professor WANG Jianzhong. He has been a member of the composition faculty at SCM since he earned his master’s degree in 1992. From 1998 to 2001, he studied with Professor YANG Liqing for his doctorate.
His compositions cover a wide range of musical forms, among which are May, the Year (grand modern dancing drama, for orchestra, 1995), Ink Wash Painting for Orchestra (2014), Xi for Erhu and String Orchestra(2006), and chamber music, symphonic chorus, multimedia symphonic music, mixed chorus a cappella, and so on. Many of these works have been widely performed at various music festivals such as the ISCM International Contemporary Music Festival, the Youth-Europe-Classic Summer Music Festival, European Choral Music Festival, the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, Shanghai International Arts Festival and so on. Many orchestras have premiered and performed Dr. Yin’s works, such as the BBC Philharmonic, the German European Youth Symphony Orchestra, Ars Nova Copenhagen, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the China National Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and so on.
Dr. Yin has received various awards and prizes including Grand Prize(Symphonic Works)in international composition competitions, the Ministry of Culture Large-Scale Symphonic Work Award, the Composition Award in Golden Bell Chinese Music Awards (Choral Works), the Ministry of Culture Innovation Award, and so on.
