5.8 Pump Piping
5.8.1 Forces and moments imposed on pump nozzles by suction and discharge piping shall comply with the manufacturer's requirements or API Std 610.
5.8.2 Pump suction piping shall have its pressure drop in compliance with process requirements and shall not have air pocket.
5.8.3 For centrifugal pump designed with horizontal suction piping,if the diameter of suction piping is changed,a straight pipe run should be provided between eccentric reducer and pump suction flange.
Where the fluid comes from the bottom, the flat side of the eccentric reducer shall be on top,and while the fluid comes from the top,the flat side of the eccentric reducer should be on top and drain shall be provided at low point. However,if pump is used to handle solid-bearing fluid or slurry, the eccentric reducer in horizontal suction shall be oriented with the flat side on bottom.
5.8.4 Adequate clearance for removal of screen shall be provided for strainer in pump suction piping.
If temporary strainer is required at pump suction,a flanged spool shall be provided for the suction piping and a spacer with thickness same as that of temporary strainer shall be also provided.
5.8.5 Reducer in pump discharge piping shall be arranged close to pump nozzle.
5.8.6 Location of the pipe supports for pump suction and discharge piping shall meet with requirement of pump maintenance.
5.8.7 Layout of piping for reciprocating pump shall not interfere with removal and maintenance of pump piston and rod.
5.8.8 The span for discharge piping of reciprocating pump shall be minimized, and rigidity for pipe supports shall be increased.
