5.5　Coking Area

5.5.1　The coking area shall be arranged at windward side of the residential area in terms of the wind direction of the least frequency in normal year.Sanitary safety distance between the coking area and the residential area shall meet the requirements of Clause 4.2.1 herein.

5.5.2　The coking area should be arranged near the iron making area.

5.5.3　The coking area shall not be arranged in the air stagnation area.

5.5.4　Coal and coke storage yards should be integrated into the comprehensive material yard of the iron and steel plant.If not integrated，they should be located at windward side of the coking area in terms of the wind direction of the least frequency in normal year and in the area with convenient transportation condition and not affecting the future extension and renovation of the storage yards.

5.5.5　Longitudinal axis of the coke oven battery should have the least cross angle with the wind direction of the most frequency in normal year.

5.5.6　The coke oven shall be kept away from the area with high groundwater level.

5.5.7　Coke dry quenching（CDQ）unit should be arranged at center part or end of the coke oven battery.Its auxiliary facilities should be located nearby CDQ unit.

5.5.8　Ground station of dedusting facilities for coal and coke treatment processes should be arranged in adjacency to the dust generation points.

5.5.9　Coke screening building and coke storge bin shall be arranged in such a way as convenient and short coke transportation can be ensured.

5.5.10　If the gas cleaning area is designed at pusher side or one end of the coke oven battery，the distance from the outside most edge of its buildings and structures to the edge of the large sized coke oven body shall not be less than 40m，and to that of the medium or small sized coke oven body shall not be less than 30m.

5.5.11　If the gas cleaning area is designed at coke side of the coke oven battery，the distance from the outside most edge of its buildings and structures to the outside track of the coke quenching car shall not be less than 45m.If the coke dry quenching（CDQ）unit is also arranged at coke side，the aforesaid distance shall be one to the edge of the CDQ oven.

5.5.12　Facilities and buildings having nothing to do with the gas cleaning plant shall not be arranged within the gas cleaning area.

5.5.13　Crude benzene refining area shall not be arranged in the center part of the coking area.Clear distance between the buildings in the crude benzene refining area and the coke oven body shall not be less than 50m.

5.5.14　Enclosure wall no less than 2.2m in height shall be provided for the crude benzene refining area，in which there shall be at least two entrances.The gate keeper shall be available at the main entrance.

5.5.15　The tar processing area should be arranged at windward side of the coking area in terms of the wind direction of the least frequency in normal year.Bituminous production device shall be arranged in the outermost area at the end of the tar distilling device，and shall enjoy convenient railway and road transportation conditions.

5.5.16　The gas cleaning area，crude benzene refining area and the tar tank area of the tar processing system should be arranged in a centralized way in the area close to boundary of the plant where convenient railway and road connection is available.

5.5.17　The general layout of coking area shall comply with not only the requirements stipulated in this code，but also those in the current relevant regulations and standards of the nation.
