Passage One BMW Logo History
According to BMW, their round blue and white logo is the movement of an aircraft propeller, showing white blades cutting through the blue sky—an explanation that BMW adopted for con-venience in 1929, twelve years after the logo was created. In fact the emblem developed from the round Rapp Motorenwerke Company logo, from which the BMW company grew, combined with the white and blue colors of the flag of Bavaria to produce the BMW logo. However, the origin of the logo is in dispute. To quote an article recently posted by The New York Times: “At the BMW Museum in Munich, Anne Schmidt-possiwal explained that the blue and white company logo did not represent a spinning propeller, but was meant to show the colors of the Free State of Bavaria.”

Passage Two Structure of the Automobile
Task one 译文
Thousands of individual parts make up the modern automobile. Much like the human body, these parts are arranged into several semi-independent systems, each with a different function.
An automobile is composed of four sections: the engine, chassis, body, and electrical system. The engine—the heart of the automobile—is comprised of pistons, cylinders, tubes to deliver fuel to the cylinders, and other components. Each system is necessary for making the automobile run and reducing noise and pollution.
Structure of an automobile
The body of the vehicle encloses the mechanical components and passenger compartment. It is made of relatively light sheet metal or composite plastics(复合塑料). The components which make up the chassis are held together in proper relation to each other by the frame. An automobile body usually consists of a driving room, a passenger or loading room, and possibly a trunk.
The chassis includes the power train, the steering system, the braking system, the suspension system(including wheels and tires). It provides the strength necessary to support the vehicle com-ponents and the payload(有效载荷)placed upon it.
Electricity is used for many parts of the car, from the headlights to the radio, but its chief func-tion is to provide the electrical spark needed to ignite the fuel in the cylinders.
These systems will be found in every form of motor vehicle and are designed to interact with and support each other.
