About Debate

Format for a Debate

（1）Position Presentation（6 minutes）

First debater in affirmative team presents their position.（3 minutes.）

First debater in negative team presents their position.（3 minutes.）

（2）Rebuttal and Response

The third debater in cons asks a question.

The first debater in pros responds，then asks.

The first debater in cons responds，then asks.

The second debater in pros responds，then asks.

The second debater in cons responds，then asks.

The third debater in pros responds，then asks.

The third debater in cons responds.

（3）Rebuttal Summary

The second debater in pros summarizes.（1.5 minutes）

The second debater in cons summarizes.（1.5 minutes）

（4）Free Debate

The pros speak first，then the cons speak.

Pros and cons take turns to speak.（4 minutes for each team）

（5）Position Summary

The fourth debater in cons summarizes their position first，then the fourth debater in pros.（4minutes for each）

Please debate on the topic：A Solider Won’t Be a Good Solider if He Doesn’t Want to Become a General.

Step 1：Think about the topic，make your decision and choose either the affirmative team or the negative team.

The affirmative team：A solider won’t be a good solider if he doesn’t want to become a general.

The negative team：A solider won’t be a good solider if he wants to become a general.

Step 2：Brainstorm for the argument and expressions that can be used in the debate.

Here are some examples：ideal and ambition，direction，hard work，determination，great power，aim high or aim low，one’s own duty，put one’s foot down，practical，airy dream，day dream.

Step 3：Each team is divided into groups of four debaters.Then two groups from each team will pair up and begin the debate.
