Honeysuckle

British|Dante Gabriel Rossetti

I pluckedpluck[plʌk] vt.采,摘 a honeysuckle where

The hedge on high is quick with thorn,

And climbing for the prize,

Was torn,

And fouledfoul[faʊl] vt.弄脏,使污秽 my feet in quag-water;

And by the thorns and by the wind

The blossom that I took was

Thinned,

And yet I found it sweet and fair.

Thencethence[ðens] adv.从那里起;从那时起 to a richer growth I came,

Where, nursed in mellowmellow['meləʊ] adj.(瓜,果等)成熟的 intercourse,

The honeysuckles sprang by scoresscores [skɔ:z] n.大量,众多,

Not harried like my single stem,

All virgin lamps of scent and dew,

So from my hand that first I threw,

Yet plucked not any more of them.
