Program notes for Golden Ox
Golden Ox is the one of the 12 orchestral pieces for the Chinese Zodiac Years. This piece was composed in 2009,and in 2011 Golden Ox was premiered by the Xia Men Philharmonic, under the baton of one of the most well-known conductors of China, Zheng Xiao-ying.
In the history of China, Ox is one of very important symbols in Chinese culture. In this piece, some meaningful elements are employed, such as music elements from the ancient kun opera, and folk songs from Zang ethnic group in Tibet, all of those remind me the herds in the snow mountain, the dance and the beautiful songs I heard when I was there for the folk music collection. All of the images became the music from my heart in flows to the score of Golden Ox!
This piece was sponsored by the Shanghai Foundation of Cultural Development.
