Part Four Situational Dialogues
Dialogue One
Peterson is persuading Barry to watch a movie with him on weekend.
Peterson: Hey Barry, what's up these days?
Barry: Nothing new, just stuck with work.
Peterson: Why don't you take a break? Have you seen La La Land?
Barry: No, I haven't seen it yet. But, I've heard it's a good movie.
Peterson: Let's watch it tomorrow. It's the weekend and you should just chill out and relax.
Barry: That sounds good, as long as I finish my work tonight.
Peterson: Come on. You shouldn't be working on Sundays anyway.
Barry: OK. You're right. I'll meet you at the mall at 5 p.m.
Peterson: Great!
Dialogue Two
Eric is shopping for clothes in a department.
Shop Assistant: Good morning, sir. Can I help you?
Eric: Yes, have you got this T-shirt in other colors?
Shop Assistant: We've got it in white, black, red and blue. What size do you want?
Eric: Medium.
Shop Assistant: OK. In medium we've got black and red.
Eric: And in blue?
Shop Assistant: No, just black and red.
Eric: OK, red. Can I try it on?
Shop Assistant: Yes, of course. The changing room is over there.
Few minutes later.
Shop Assistant: Is it OK?
Eric: Yes, I'll take it.
Shop Assistant: OK, it's $25. Would you like to pay by credit card or in cash?
Eric: Cash, please. Here's $30.
Shop Assistant: OK, thanks. That's $5 change. And, here's the receipt.
Eric: Thanks. Bye.
Shop Assistant: Bye.
Dialogue Three
Valentine's Day is coming and Tom is ordering flowers from a florist for his girlfriend.
Mrs. William: Hello, Star Flowers. Mrs. William speaking.
Tom: This is Tom Clinton. I'd like to order some flowers and have them sent to my girlfriend's home.
Mrs. William: Fine, Mr. Clinton. What kind of flowers would you like?
Tom: A dozen red roses.
Mrs. William: A dozen red roses. Our long-stem red roses are selling for 60 dollars a dozen this week and they're really nice.
Tom: All right. I'll take those.
Mrs. William: Are they for any particular occasion?
Tom: Yes, Valentine's Day is coming.
Mrs. William: Then what would you like us to put on the card?
Tom: Hmm, something cute. How about: If I could rearrange the alphabet, I'd put U and I together?
Mrs. William: Fine. I need your girlfriend's name and address with zip code.
Tom: Christine Smith, 626 Edgewood Rock Hill SC, 29556.
Mrs. William: OK. Now, when should they arrive?
Tom: They should be there before six in the evening on February 14.
Mrs. William: That should be no problem. Just one more question, Mr. Clinton, how would you like to pay?
Tom: You can put it on my Visa card. The number is JK6098339.
Mrs. William: OK. Thank you for calling Star Flowers. We'll have those dozen red roses delivered to your lucky girlfriend before 6 p.m. on February 14.
Tom: Thank you very much.
Mrs. William: You're welcome. Goodbye.
