As Sincere as Cheng Ying and Chujiu

One day Tu Angu, the minister of Jin State, led his army and massacred the whole family of Zhao without the King's authorization, including the ministers Zhao Shuo, Zhao Tong, Zhao Kuo and Zhao Yingqi.

Zhao Shuo's wife, the daughter of the king, hid in the palace to survive the massacre, and later gave birth to a posthumous child. But the military forces outside the palace were eager to track down the child. In order to save the orphan of Zhao, Cheng Ying, Zhao Shuo's friend, devised a stratagem with Zhao Shuo's retainer Gongsun Chujiu. They found a baby to pretend to be the child of Zhao Shuo. Later on Gongsun Chujiu and the sham orphan were killed, but the true orphan was safe.

Eventually, with the help of the minister Han Jue, the orphan of Zhao who was called Zhao Wu regained the vavasory which used to belong to the family of Zhao. Moreover, under the order of Duke Jing of Jin, he avenged his family's blood by killing the whole family of Tu.

Today, the idiom refers to the man who is so reliable that you can entrust an orphan to his care in time of danger. It also refers to the man who exerts all his power to protect the heir of his bosom friend.

We should learn to distinguish between the good and the bad. When in danger, we should stick to our beliefs, have the courage to act and dare to take the responsibility.
