Preface
In order to resist risks in a dynamic competitive environment and get competitive advantages, enterprises must have the abilities to resist risks. Since the 1990s, the new roles played by knowledge and knowledge accumulation have not only changed the business environment, but also redefined the meaning of enterprise activities. Knowledge accumulation is benefit for the decline of risk. Facing with the new characteristics of the enterprises and their relationship with the external environment in the society of knowledge economy, this study integrated the corporate competence and knowledge. Based on the research theories of knowledge management, risk management and competitive advantage, the paper focuses on the risk resistance capacities from the perspective of knowledge, and attempts to reveal its relationship with the enterprises' competitive advantages. Considering the typical characteristics as high knowledge and high risk of the high-tech enterprises, this study chooses high-tech enterprises as the empirical research objects. This paper consists of the theoretical research of the knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capability and the empirical study of the relationship between the risk resistance capabilities and the high-tech enterprises' competitive advantages.
The main contents of the paper include:(1)The concept of enterprise risk resistance capability;(2)The analysis of the elements of knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capability, and the design of an evaluation scale for knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capability;(3)The analysis of the evolution process of knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capability, and combined with a typical case study;(4)The design of a conceptual model of the relationship between the knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capabilities and high-tech enterprises' competitive advantage. Combined with the empirical study of high-tech enterprises, the paper reveals the relationship between the knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capabilities and high-tech enterprises' competitive advantage.
Based on the above researches, this paper draws the following conclusions.
(1)The essences of enterprise risk resistance capabilities is knowledge.(2)The knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capabilities consist of knowledge absorptive capability, knowledge creation capability, knowledge integration capability and organizational knowledge.(3)The evolution of the knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capability is essentially the evolution of knowledge. It consists of perception, variation, selection, duplication and maintaining stage. Individual factors, organizational factors and external environmental factors are the main driving factor of the evolution.(4)The knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capabilities have positive effects on the high-tech enterprises' competitive advantage. Among those elements, absorptive capacity, creation capacity and organizational knowledge have direct effect on competitive advantage. The impacts of dynamic elements(absorptive capacity and creation capacity)are more important than the static element's(organizational knowledge). The knowledge creation capacity is the main factor affecting the high-tech enterprises' competitive advantage. Integration capability must impact competitive advantage indirectly through organizational knowledge.
This paper gets some innovations in the following aspects.
(1)Unique research perspective. Knowledge acquisition and development will obviously lead to risk reducing, but their important relationship had been paid little attention to in the research literatures about risk and knowledge. Studying the risk resistance capability from the knowledge perspective makes the research more focused and clearer.
(2)The constructs of the knowledge-based risk resistance capability of high-tech enterprises. Introducing knowledge research perspective, combining high-tech enterprises' characteristics, the study defined the knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capabilities consisting of knowledge absorptive capacity, knowledge creation capacity, knowledge integration capacity and organizational knowledge. The division reflects the static and dynamic characteristics of the risk resistance capacities, overcomes the problem of dynamic research being divorced from static research in the enterprise ability study, and also considering the flexible and the rigid, make up for the problem which ignors rigidity in the uncertain environment.
(3)The knowledge-based risk resistance capability of high-tech enterprisesis is measured. This research through designed the measurement questionnaire of the knowledge-based enterprise risk resistance capability changes the abstract concept into organizational knowledge and the process of knowledge absorption, creation and integration, significantly improves the study's observability and maneuverability. The design of this measure scale provides a workable research tool for the evaluation of risk resistance capability and its relationship with other management variables.
(4)The knowledge essence and the evolution process of the risk resistance capability are revealed. Through the analysis of the relationship between knowledge accumulation and risk decreasing, the research reveals the knowledge essence of the risk resistance capability. The evolution of enterprise risk resistance capability is essentially the knowledge evolution. According to the traditional theory of enterprise evolution research, combined with the practice, the perception stage has been innovatively joined into the evolution process of the risk resistance capability.
(5)The relations between the knowledge-based risk resistance capability and high-tech enterprises' competitive advantage are analysed. The research of enterprise capability will be ultimately attributed to competitive advantage, but how to analyze the relationship between corporate capability and competitive advantage with the theoretical and empirical research approach, exploring the formation or influence mechanism of competitive advantage in a dynamic uncertain environment, are still to be solved in strategic management field. The paper reveals the relationship of the knowledge-based risk resistance capability and high-tech enterprises' competitive advantage through a conceptual model and the empirical study. This study integrated dynamic and static dimensions of knowledge to explore the effect of the dynamic knowledge flow and static knowledge stock for enterprises to against risks and gain competitive advantage. The revealing of the relationship of the static knowledge resources and dynamic knowledge capabilities with enterprises' competitive advantage highlight the theoretical innovation. And it also provides a new research perspective for the intrinsic mechanism of high-tech enterprises' competitive advantage in the era of knowledge economy.
