● 除run round外,以上均是动介型词组,意为“服侍”某人,均可用被动语态。
● attend on; attend upon指护士服侍病人或地位较低的人服侍地位较高的人。两词组可互换。如:The patient has been attended on [upon] by nurses night and day.(患者由护士日夜护理。)He had the honor of attending upon [on] the Prince.(他有幸能服侍王子。)Jane has been attending on [upon] her sick mother for years.(简多年来一直在照料她生病的母亲。)If you go out, I will attend on [upon] our teacher.(如果你出去,我来服侍我们老师。)
● run after多用于口语,可用run round代替,要注意round是副词,after是介词。如:I can’t keep running after you all day, my son!(我不能整天像仆人一样伺候你,儿子。)He is a man likes his wife running after him all the time.(他是个巴不得整天让妻子伺候的人。)Don’t expect me to run after you all my life.或Don’t expect me to run you round all my life!(你休想要我伺候你一辈子!)She is not going to spend her life running after you.(她不打算一辈子伺候你。)
