Abstract

No one has ever collated hermits or reclusive literati of Song dynas-ty. Also no men have given both types of people such an all-sided in-depth analysis and summary.

The hermits and reclusive literati of Song dynasty create rich culture and works of art, which contain politic, culture, history, literature and art. They kindled independent humanistic spirits, pure artistic spirits and philosophic thinking. This book based on the summary of hermits and re-clusive literati of Song dynasty, discusses Chinese traditional hermit cul-ture which includes hermit literature and reclusive literati literature of Song dynasty. Each chapter of the book is original: a series of new ques-tions, a large quantity of new materials, precise and painstaking dis-course.

There are many innovations of the book. For example, the author does deeply research for the reasons of hermits live in seclusion, discov-ers clues of Zhu Xi as a leader of anchoret groups, studies on the atti-tudes of unrestrained litterateur, gives an illumination of Shao Yong“Happy hermit poetry”, proves history of reclusive literati culture, and also illustrates the differences among pure reclusive literati, exiled reclu-sive literati and reclusive literati at court. A study of“receptive attitude”is in creative thought to reach the source of culture and literature in Song dynasty.
